WINTER HERE TO STAY?

Hey Pals,

Well it looks like the normal Iowa winter is here for a while now. It has been horribly cold since the last snow storm and it's only -1 degrees right now not counting the wind chill factor. We have another snow storm on it's way. We're supposed to get another 4-6 inches of snow tomorrow, uggggggh! Our tootsies are going to freeze when we go outside to potty.

The bambi are sleeping on our land more, they like to curl up in our bushy areas to get out of the wind. There were at least 2 dozen deer out there this morning. We got pictures of a few of them. It's hard to get a good photo with all of those darn bush branches in the way.

The open area on our largest pond is almost closed up now with these below zero temperatures. The ice isn't very thick yet, so the deer walked around the opening, but didn't get close enough for a drink. Think they figured out they might fall through. They've been there done that before!

Our girlie cat Hootie is smart, she lays in a sun spot with the fireplace behind her to keep warm!

I think Sparky & I should find a nice sunny spot to go lay in and take a nappy!

THE STEELERS LOST!

It's me Katie today. Sparky and I have been kind of bored cause Mama's been sick since last Thursday night. Wish she would hurry up and get over this stuff. When she is sick, she gets very very bored cause she really doesn't feel like doing anything around here. But I convinced her to hurry up and finish my WHEELIE!

Yep, the Line Bros. wheelie that she was restoring with new mohair so that it looks like me Katie.

She finally finished her yesterday.

TOGO ARRIVES & SNOW ON THE WAY!

Hey Pals,

It sure is gloomy here today. Rain started last night and it has been raining all day. And guess what? A snow storm is on the way and it's just starting to snow now, weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Mama is NOT excited about it either. But she is ready, has her snow boots by the back door and her winter coat hanging on the hook. Hmmmmmm, better get the mop out too cause when we come in from going out to potty, the floors get wet everywhere!

I wonder what Sparky will think of the snow this time? We've had snow one other time so far this season, but it melted so fast. Sparky did eat some of the snow last time, but really didn't have a chance to romp around in it.

Yesterday we had a visitor arrive at our house to spend some time at the Teddy Bear Facelifts Spa!

His name is TOGO and he lives near Miss Sunshade in Canada. Miss Sunshade even helped Togo's Mom get him prepared for the trip to Iowa.

Togo wasn't too thrilled about crawling into that box:

But see, he arrived safe & sound at our house. He started climbing out of the box right away.

GROOMING TIME!

Hey Pals,

It's me Katie. Low and behold, Mama plopped me onto the grooming table this morning. She said I look like a wooly lamb with my long hair. So it was time for strip, clip and scissor time.

My hairdo isn't totally done yet, she needs to strip the longer hairs from my legs and a few touch up areas.

The sunlight coming through our skylights messed up this photo:

And of course my tail is not upright, I'm still a bit camera shy.

It's hard to believe I'm already 1 year 9 months old. Seems like just yesterday I was a wee one like Sparky, losing my pupper toofers and acting silly. Speaking of toofers, after Mama worked on my hair, Sparky got my furs all bloody again from wrestling with me. One of his big molars has poked through the gum and keeps bleeding. Yesterday he lost his other bottom puppy fang and got me bloody. Here is his toofer:

It sure is hard work helping your brudder pull out his puppy tooth. We wrestled and played bitey face for hours before the tooth popped. I was tuckered out afterwards:

We took some photos of Sparky today too. He is 21 weeks old, will be 5 months old on December 4th.

What a show off, holding his tail upright so nicely! He won't be holding it up next Wednesday when he goes to the vet to have his 'boy bits' removed, hahahaha!

REMEMBERING OUR ANGEL MISS SNICKERS

Today is a sad day here at Mutton Hollow. It has been 2 years now since our Angel Miss Snickers left us for the Rainbow Bridge. We still miss her dearly. The pain of losing her still hangs on. But we know she is in a much better place now where the Evil Seizure Monster & Cancer Monster can never hurt her again.

Mama told us that me & Sparky would have loved Snickers. She showed us tons of pictures of her and told us many of her stories. We tried to pick out a few photos to post. It was very hard to choose which ones. Way too many to pick from.

SPARKY IS 19 WEEKS OLD TODAY & 3RD WORLDWIDE MOMENT

It's me Katie. I can hardly believe my new brudder is already 19 weeks old today! And would you believe he can slam dunk me down to the ground, pin me down and almost keep me there??? I still manage to wriggle myself out from under him. He has 9 missing toofers now and we can hardly wait for his puppy fangs to fall out.

Here are some photos Mama took of Sparky today. He still likes to wiggle a lot when she wants to shoot a picture, so it takes a long time to get a few good ones.

He's about 10 lbs. now, growing up so fast. Before you know it, he'll be passing me up in weight.

BOOK REVIEW: AWKWARD FAMILY PET PHOTOS

We wanted to tell you about a book we have read that is all about pet photos!

Awkward Family Pet Photos!

The authors of the book are Mike Bender and Doug Chernack. The book is filled with pet photos, not exactly awkward though. Many are very cute! The authors launched a web site called AwkwardFamilyPhotos.com back in May 2009. The pet photos posted on the site were the most commented on, so they decided to start a site called AwkwardFamilyPetPhotos.com

The book features exclusive never-before-seen photos and stories. All types of pets are featured and guest contributors are featured in each chapter writing about their own experiences.

You can even submit your own photos on their sites. New photos are posted often on the sites for your viewing. So if you like books, this is a cute book with mostly photos and some stories. There is also a link to their store on the site where you can purchase the books, calendars, tshirts and board games.

It's Wheely Wednesday! And it's a cold, wet, rainy one here in Iowa. Some cities might get snow tonight. Hope it's not here. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Since we're bored here today, we decided to take photos of our Terrier Wheely Collection to show you. Now keep in mind, this is ONLY our Wheely Collection. This doesn't include all of the gazillion stuffed Terriers that we have sitting around the entire house. Plus it doesn't include all of the Wheely Kids that Mama has cleaned, fixed, restored and sold to customers from her Teddy Bear Facelifts business. KONG COZIES ARE HERE!

Hey Pals,

Our KONG COZIES have arrived! And just in time too. I Katie have this nasty bladder infection and I've been taking my pills like a good girl. Sparky is now missing 3 front puppy teeth and hasn't chewed on anything in the house. So Mama rewarded us with our new KONG COZIES that we get to try out!

I got Rosie the purple Rhino and Sparky got King the turquoise Lion!

Cozies are partially stuffed and have squeakers inside of them. They are not chew toys, but great toys for playing fetch,

shaking,

mouthing (like Sparky does right now with missing toofers), and a great snoozing buddy.

I Katie especially like to play fetch with Mama.

And they are just the right size for a fox terrier mouth:

SPARKY LOST HIS FIRST PUPPY TOOTH & KATIE HAS INFECTION

It's me Sparky! I lost my very first puppy toofer this morning! My sissy Katie knocked the loose toofer out for me while we were wrestling. Check it out:

Poor Katie had to go to the vet-pire yesterday. Mama noticed blood in her urine so off to the vet they went, left me all alone with the catsies.

It's strange she got infection, she's not even 2 years old yet. So they did an x-ray, ruled out bladder stones, whew! Then they tooth a big needle and poked it through her belly into the bladder to draw clean urine. The vet said Katie was good as gold for them, held very still and didn't even whimper or cry! She's such a good girl.

The tests showed very very mild infection, so they did a culture over night. Only a little bacteria grew, so she is staying on the antibiotic that they prescribed for her yesterday. She did have high alkaline for her urine. So if the infection doesn't clear up, or does clear up and come right back, then they will do blood tests. We think she might have higher alkaline cause she doesn't really drink enough water. So now Mama is going to add water to her kibble for awhile. You can also give a dog Vitamin C to help make the urine more acidic. We don't want her urine to stay alkaline because this can cause bladder stones possibly. And we don't want those!

Last night our catsie Sylvester decided to nurse Katie back to good health. He snuggled with her to watch tv and even groomed her hair for her. He's such a lover boy!

One more week and it will be Halloween! Scaaaaaaaaaaaaweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

But we're all ready. Mama bought some baby clothes at a garage sale very very cheap and made them into costumes for us. She had to do some cutting and sewing, but the costumes turned out pretty well.

Sparky isn't too keen on having clothes put on him yet, but he's learning. Not bad for only 16 weeks old.

His loose bottom toofer is still hanging on, but should fall out within the next few days. It sticks out funny, hehehehe! Once that one falls, more will follow!

No costumes for the catsies this year. Mama is too busy making her Mutton Hollow Critters to sell and finding antique wheelies for people. CEDAR WAXWINGS & FALL COLOR

Hey Pals,

So far this Fall the trees haven't had much color around our area. We had frost several times before the leaves turned color, so then they fell off of the trees before turning to nice colors. Here is a shot of the grasses and things around our ponds:

All of our Honeysuckle bushes have TONS of red berries on them, along with all of our flowering crabapple trees. So the Cedar Waxwing birds have been hanging around our land the last week. Normally these birds come through here in the Spring and then back through in Fall on their way to more southern states for Winter. But some parts of Iowa have the birds stay year round, so Mama is thinking since we have so many berries on our land this year, maybe the birds will stay for the Winter. We must have several thousand of the birds hanging around our bushes now.

We sure hope they stay all of the time. You can actually get fairly close to these birds. When we do walkies along our trails through the bushes, we can get within 5 feet of the birds before they fly off to another bush. They stay in flocks of several hundred birds in a group and they sure love getting drinks in our ponds.

It is a child's hand muff. Very unusual and hard to find. And some of you have already seen the newest Mutton Hollow Critter on Facebook, the 'Aire-Bear' that Mama sold.

Papa is going to be cleaning up some of the pond plants for winter tomorrow. We are draining the largest pond down right now to a low level, about 2 feet deep. It's 5 feet deep total, but we need to leave the water deep enough for the koi to swim in comfortably while Papa works in there. Then we'll fill it back up with fresh well water. The koi will be happy!

STICKS AND NUT SHELLS AND LEAVES OH MY!

Hey Pals,

Tomorrow my brudder Sparky is 14 weeks old, wooohoooooo! He is growing fast. He loves to run in the dry leaves outside. Our weather has warmed up here in Iowa, but not for long. Many of the tree leaves are on the ground now so we like to romp and play in them. We had severe high winds this week so the weather service posted warnings about crop fires. The farmers have been busy picking the soybeans out here across from us. Sparks from farm equipment can easily start the dry crops on fire and if they do, the high winds can spread the fire very quickly. So some farmers have stopped harvesting for now.

Mama took some photos of Sparky today while we were playing outside. He is so long and lanky right now, long legs and a long face, but sooooooo cute!

I better hurry up and put my Steelers cheerleading outfit on and watch the game. It's already started, GO STEELERS!

Today is a sad day. Our Angel Butchy would have turned 11 years old today. We miss him so much.........

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANGEL BUTCHY!

We've been trying to keep Mama busy today so she doesn't cry so much. Ruby had to be at the vet at 7:15 this morning to get her toofers cleaned. All of her teeth look very good and now they are all clean again.

Then this afternoon Sparky got his shots and brought Ruby home. Sparky gained 5 oz. since his visit 3 weeks ago, so now he weighs 6 lbs. 6 oz. Mama thought for sure he gained more then that, he is so much taller now. Sparky gets more shots in 3 weeks and Sylvester gets to go with him to get his yearly shots.
Just wait til Sparky finds out that in December he will be neutered, hehehehe! No more boy bits for him.

Mama says I'm nuts. I keep licking and sniffing Ruby's mouth and toofers. The vet must have used some good smelling toothpaste on her, hahaha!

SPARKY IS 12 WEEKS OLD TODAY!

It's hard to believe that my little debbil brudder Sparky (ooooh, I mean ANGEL) is 12 weeks old today! He is so much fun to play with. Too bad it's raining outside, our walkies are very short today. So, Mama decided it was another day for Music Appreciation. We make sure Sparky hears all kinds of noises and sounds each day. And so far, he is not afraid of anything. Mama got out some cds to play:

SPARKY IS 11 WEEKS OLD!

Hey Pals,

Yesterday my brudder Sparky turned 11 weeks old. We can hardly believe he's this old already. So we took some new photos showing each side of him.

He sure is one smart little pup. He still has not had any potty accidents in the house at all. This sure makes Mama happy.

Today our catsie Ruby had to go to the vet for her yearly shots. It has been 3 years now since we rescued her. She still weighs the same as she did last year, a whole 5 1/2 lbs. Such a tiny girl. She doesn't mind going to the vet at all. Now she is all tired out, taking a nap on the cat tree:

She won't be so happy though in 2 weeks, she's going to get her toofers cleaned, hehehehehehe!

SPARKY UPDATE

Hey Pals,

My brudder Sparky is doing great! I have sooooo much fun with him. We wrestle non-stop all day long. I thought I would post some photos of him and also of his first venture to our vet yesterday.

The first few photos are from Tuesday. As you can tell, Mama has been stripping on his hairs and he looks so handsome:

See, he's a big boy now, he can weigh himself. He weighs 6.1 lbs., which is almost 1 lb. more than what I Katie weighed when I was 10 weeks old.

DA MONSTER BIRD IS BACK!

HELP! I need my Angel Butchy here to help me battle that evil MONSTER BIRD! aka Great Blue Heron. He is back and trying to kill our koi.

Mama came home from getting groceries yesterday and spied the MONSTER BIRD by the pond trying to get a fish. So she turned into the MAD WILD WOMAN! Jumped out of the car screaming, waving her arms and running at him. Sure made the MONSTER BIRD fly away fast.

So then she got out our fake plastic Heron decoy and put it out by the pond hoping to deter the real bird. Mama has been looking out for the birds lately as they have started to migrate and this is when they usually find our pond. I Katie came out to the ponds with Mama later and we set up the outdoor spy camera by the pond.

This morning Mama went out to the ponds right away to get the chip out of the camera to see if the bird had been around. She looked into the pond and one of our booootiful red & black hooooge koi was floating dead. That EVIL bird had stabbed a hole through it's head. But apparently wasn't sly enough to get it out of the pond. The bird usually stands at the edge of the pond where the water is 5 foot deep. Herons won't go into water that deep, so they usually just stand at the side waiting for a koi to swim by them. But they can't grab the fish easily this way. So Mama had to bury the poor koi. She's bummed.

Well lo and behold, we caught the evil villan on camera, check these out: (the small little heron in the photos is our fake bird)

Too bad these birds are federally protected! Hmmmmph!

We also had some MASKED villans appear last night at the ponds. Usually these guys don't get any koi, they are much too large for them to grab.

I better go outside and check the koi again. Just think, tomorrow night Sparky will be here and he can start learning to protect the koi, hehehehe!

RUBY BEING SILLY

MUMSIE VISITS MY NEW BRUDDER!

This past Friday, Mumsie aka Lacie, Scruffman & BabyStan's Mama went to visit my future brudder and his puppymates. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, they are so cute!

And NO, we still don't have my brudder picked out. We had the choices down to two males, then we kept one of those males as a choice and added another one. This was done after doing the preliminary temperment testing. The tests will be done again this week and we will have my brudder picked out before the end of the week.

IT'S WHEELY WEDNESDAY!

Hey Pals,

It's Wheely Wednesday! The wheely kids have been pretty quiet around here this year, especially when Angel Butchy was so sick. But now they have been holding daily meetings again. Whispering about the new furkid that is going to live with us.

They also have been discussing how to restore the two new wheelies that have arrived here this summer.

The large boy has a hoooge old repair to the top of his head:

Mama is probably going to give this boy brand new mohair and make his coloring and pattern match the new puppy that we are getting in 3 weeks! So it might be awhile before he is complete.

This wheelie just arrived this week and seems to be a girl.

So Mama is going to make her into ME KATIE!!!! How pawsome! I can hardly wait.

My secretary has been sort of out of commission lately. She was trying to paint some rooms in the house, but she flared up the bad disc in her neck, her bad elbows and hands are all swelled up. So she can't type much with these goofy braces that she must wear on her wrists and elbows. I did get her to keep taking photos of our pretty flowers that have been blooming. Today is both a happy and sad day. Today would have been Angel Snickers' 9th birthday! Below is a picture of her lounging on the bridge at our ponds.....

PUPPIES 1 WEEK OLD & FLOWERS

On Monday my new brudder turned 1 week old! We can't believe it has already been a week since July 4th when he was born. Mama finally got pictures of me in my July 4th outfit. I'm going to wear it every Monday as my new brudder turns one week older each Monday!

His Mama is my Auntie Belle, 'Birchhurst Pearls Belle'. Below is a picture of me with her last year when I was just a wee pup:

His Papa's name is Mickey, 'Birchhurst Mickey'. His grandpa's are the famous Champions 'Aljamar Witch Doctor' and 'Chauncy Of Special Edition'. Mickey's parents are the same as our pal Scruffy! So Scruffy is an uncle again, hehehehe!

Mama is trading her quilting services for the price of a pup. Pretty good deal huh? Mama knows how to sew all sorts of things and is always making something for someone.

Angel Butchy & Angel Snickers figured I'm too lonely without a wirey sibling to play with, so they arranged for the puppies to come down from Heaven to be born.

My new brudder is related to me, Butchy, Snickers, Scruffy, Asta, Jake, Eric, Duffy, Nicky & Jenny. What a wonderful wirey world!

Now we have to wait until the end of August to get him. Mama has no idea what the word PATIENCE means!

I have some more flower photos to show you and a few more photos of our koi fishies. The flower blooming has just begun here. Our daylilies will be opening soon. One color did open a few days ago while it was raining. Normally daylilies are already blooming here in Iowa, but with the cold weather spells, many flowers are starting late.

OUR POND WATERLILIES

It's me Katie Tater Tot!

Some of our pretty waterlilies are finally blooming in our ponds. Our Iowa weather has been so strange this Spring and Summer, first ice cold, then burning hot, then ice cold, yadayadayada. So many of our plants and flowers are blooming much later than normal. But here are a few of our lilies blooming:

Here is one of our Japanese Iris:

This is Koi Sugar. She is one of our largest female koi. She's approximately 24 inches long. She produces many of our yellow babies that we get.

Mama hasn't collected any koi eggs yet for raising indoors because we have had rain almost every day lately. Hopefully it will be dry this weekend so we can collect some eggs.

SCUBY IS TOO SKINNY AND KOI FISH

Hey Pals,

Last week my sisfur Scuby went to the vet to have her toofers cleaned. Low and behold, she lost 11 ounces since February when she got her shots. She is only 7 1/2 lbs. now, approximately 3 years old.

The vet was very concerned so they did blood tests on Scuby before cleaning her teeth. The good news is that all of her blood tests were great! They can't find any reason why she has lost weight. So we guess she is just not eating enough. Scuby is the most active of all of our cats here at Mutton Hollow. She's always running around doing zoomies and racing me up the steps. If we put more food in her dish, she doesn't always eat it all. She gets 4 small meals per day. Anyone out there with cats have some good ways to help Scuby gain some weight???

Scuby and I Katie helped Mama with the koi babies today that she has raised from eggs since last May 2010. Here are some of those koi a few weeks ago in the large aquarium:

Well today was the day that they graduate and get to live in the huge ponds we have outside. We have 9 of the koi that we kept. Mama sold the rest and was able to buy lots of koi food to feed all of our outdoor koi.

Three of them are about 8-9 inches long and probably females. So hopefully by next Spring, the male koi will be breeding with these females.

Later this week Mama will be collecting fresh koi eggs from the ponds to raise indoors again. We already have koi babies swimming in the ponds. Some of those are already 1 inch long. The koi breed like crazy with the stormy weather that we have been having. Thank fishness the koi eat a lot of the fresh eggs. Otherwise we would have a gazillion babies out there, hehehehe!

PIPER IS SAFE BACK AT HOME THIS MORNING!

Wonderful news! Piper is back in Cheryl's arms and home again. Here is the Facebook post from Wire Fox Terrier Rescue this morning:
WIRE FOX TERRIER RESCUE MIDWEST

CAPTURED & BACK AT RESCUE! Our elusive fox PIPER was caught this morning at the farm on 250th. When Cheryl walked up to the barn she was not in there? There is also a fenced kennel outside where they had put the crate with food in and the gate was shut. What? The storms and wind last night must of blown the gate shut but as soon as PIPER heard Cheryl walking up she came out of the dog house wagging her tail and so HAPPY to see her. Now safe and sound back at Rescue everyone sniffing her - Carson, Mickey, Toodles, Louie and the gang. PIPER ran right over and got in her purple furry bed!
We are so thankful! I helped Mama drive around that area yesterday looking for Miss Piper, but we did not see her anywhere. We did see some bambi, wild turkey and some baby raccoons! But no Piper. Thank you to everyone for your prayers. We know the ONE above helped capture this little girl!

PLEASE HELP FIND PIPER, SHE IS LOST AGAIN!

Hey Pals,

Remember several months ago when a rescued puppy mill foxy girl named Piper escaped near Galena, IL and was missing for many weeks, then found??? Well, she has since recovered from most of her injuries and was staying at the Fox Terrier Rescue here in Dumont, IA. BUT, this is what has just happened:

REPORTED FROM WIRE FOX TERRIER RESCUE:

OUR HEARTS ARE BROKEN ONCE AGAIN and it is with great sadness that we report our beloved Piper is once again missing and on the loose. She was boarded with the other Wires at the animal hospital in Waverly over graduation weekend and had broken loose from a kennel girl. The search has been nonstop with Dr. Frost, vet girls, Cheryl, family, friends, Tricia and even Chris & Faith arriving to search for Piper. We have posters, signs and two Find Toto campaigns running. There were 3 sightings yesterday - one in Waverly and two in Shell Rock. Dear God this cannot be happening again to our little Piper we repeat. Please if you have any family or friends in the Waverly area of Iowa - please cross post and ask for their help to watch.

We can't believe this. Dr. Frost's place is only 5 miles north of us, but across the river. Unfortunately, Piper is not running towards our direction. Since being reported in Shell Rock, this means she has headed west, away from Waverly. (if the report is actually about her) There are many open farm fields and luckily the crops are just barely coming up, so it would be fairly easy to see her running through an open field. Hey Pals,

Can you believe the strange weather everyone is having? One day it's 100 degrees here in Iowa, the next, only 59 degrees with rain for days. Mama thought it was time to strip and groom my hair for summer so that I didn't look like a woolly lamb!

So she got out the flashy beast thing and started snapping pictures. She told me I'm getting much better at posing for photos, hah! I just wanted that treat she was holding in her hand. So tell me, which photo do you think I look best in:

THE TUXIE BOYS AND PLUMBING LEAKS

Hey Pals,

We took some new pictures of my lazy catsie brudders. Most of the time they just lay around. EXCEPT if Mama gets the hair brush out and brushes me or one of the other cats, then Sylvester comes flying to get his hair brushed. For some reason he just loves it, especially if Mama uses my stripping knives on his hair.

Darn, he won't fess up and tell me what she said. Oh well.

We didn't have a very good week here. Mama went downstairs one day to feed the catsies their lunch and she heard water dripping. So she turned on the light in the back corner and HOLY MOLY! Water all over the floor, water running down the drywall. So she got the ladder and crawled up into the floor joists where lots of icky spider webs are, hehehehe! She finally figured out it was the plumbing leaking that goes to the tub faucet. WHAT A PAIN! That plumbing in the basement is smack dab right beside the main house 2 x 12's that sit on the basement walls. But where the tiny holes were that the plumbing goes through up into the flooring, she could tell the water was coming from above there. So that meant it was leaking somewhere in the bathroom walls. UGGGGGHHHHH!

And what does that mean??? Well, see this nice painted wall above the garden tub???

And all of this junk that Papa brought into the bathroom???

And they even had to cut out a 2 x 4 in order to get their arms down to the plumbing:

The TINY PIN HOLE leak was in the elbow where that bucket is sitting. For such a teeny tiny hole, it sure sprayed a lot of water on everything. And of course there is NO WAY you could weld copper plumbing there, just NO WAY! So it's SHARK BITE parts to the rescue again!

Mama says SHARK BITES are the best thing invented for plumbing repairs. The parts are not very cheap, but if you added up how much it would cost to have welding torches and supplies, plus being able to get into a small spot to weld without burning your house down, SHARK BITES are soooooo much cheaper!

Now we leave the hole in the wall open for a few weeks just to make sure there are no water leaks. Mama wants to put a wood door on the wall so that someday, if there is another leak or the faucet needs replaced, you just open the door. BUT NO, Papa wants to drywall, (which will always show where you patch it) and Mama will be stuck trying to match the paint. So we'll see who wins on that one! hahahaha!

Guess I better get back to having Mama groom my hair. She started stripping my hair this morning. Then silly Sylvester had to climb up on the grooming table with me, begging Mama to brush his black shiny hair.

It's me Katie, finally blogging. It has been very sad in our house, but we're trying to get happy again. Since me and Mama's favorite color is PAWPLE, we thought we would show pictures of our purple iris that are blooming, along with some other photos of me, flowers and our ponds.

Now Butchy has some very impawtant things to tell you and ask of you. So I'll let him woof now.

Hi Pals, as you know I have been very sick with this Cancer Monster and Seizure Monster. My little body is wearing out I'm afraid. I have been putting up a very brave tough terrier fight, but the cancerous brain tumor is very evil and hard to defeat. We know many Angel Dogs & Cats have lost this battle too. The tumor in my brain is making me lose control of bodily functions and I can hardly walk now and my vision is getting much worse. Mama thinks the lung cancer is making it more difficult for me to breathe. I want to leave this earth before my brain is damaged so much that I don't know my family.

Mama & Papa have made the hard decision to let me earn my angel wings and be with my sissie Angel Snickers soon.

I have packed my bags and tomorrow, Wednesday, May 25th, at approximately 5:00PM Central time I will leave this earth and join Angel Snickers in Heaven along with all of my other wonderful pals that have gone before me.

My best buddy & bro-in-law Gussie requested that I give Angel Snickers a kissie from him which I will. So I thought it be appropriate that anyone that wants me to deliver a kissie to their Angels, to please blow a kiss my way at 5PM and I will take these to your Angels in Heaven.

My family wants to thank each and every one of you for all of your love, kindness, support, encouraging words, and for helping Mama & Papa pay for my medical expenses. We deeply appreciate this. We wish we could hug each and every one of you. Please help take care of my Mama for me as she is a total wreck. It has only been 1 1/2 years since Snickers left us and the hurt from losing her still makes Mama so sad.

Encourage Katie to keep blogging. I know it will be hard for Mama to help her. Captain Sylvester will take over my plane flying duties and escort our pals to our worldwide pawties. I will make sure all of your Angels will have grand pawties up in Heaven.

I will see all of you again someday and we will have a grand celebration.

HAIL STORM AND BUTCHY UPDATE

Hey Pals,

It's Katie girl here. Horrible tornadoes have been ripping across the Midwest in the last few days. Joplin, MO was hit hard with many deaths. It seems like just yesterday the deadly F5 tornado hit 20 miles from us in Parkersburg, Iowa on May 25, 2008. So when the sirens started sounding yesterday afternoon, Mama was worried. Several tornadoes were spotted in towns south of us and north of us. We were very lucky here. We only had very high winds and hail. Some of the hail stones were golf ball size when we ventured out after the storm. Most were like quarter size. Here is a photo of the hail one hour after it fell. The hail was so cold that we had instant steam everywhere after the rain stopped.

Mama was so happy that Butchy did not get worked up during the storm. We think that since he is on so many potent drugs, maybe they kept him calm. It could also be from the fact that Butchy does have some brain damage from the cancerous tumor and the many seizures.

Butchy is not doing so well today. He doesn't want to walk outside. Mama talked with the vet first thing today and he confirmed what we had suspected last week when his severe diarrhea started. Butchy has partial loss of control of his bowel movements due to the brain tumor damage. The diarrhea has pretty much stopped but he still has stool come out on it's own while he barks, is laying down, or walking, etc. and he doesn't have a clue it has happened. We have peepee pads laying all over for him to lay on. He doesn't mind them at all which is good. But Mama is spending so much time cleaning him up. He's probably sick of Mama cleaning his rear end and hind legs.

Poor little guy is not sleeping much now either. He can't seem to get comfortable laying down. We don't think he has any pain from the tumors in his left lung yet. Being able to walk around is so hard for him now. He toddles over and bumps into things. Mama & Papa now carry him up and down the stairs since his vision is deteriorating.

Here I am looking at my brudder from the couch while he caught a short nap by the tv. I don't know what I'm going to do without him.

But the tiredness is normal for him for a whole day after having a seizure. Hopefully Butchy will be more himself tomorrow.

The pond farther back in the photo is actually the largest pond and that is where the koi live. Once the pampass grass and other grasses grow, they will stand about 8 feet above the back end of the pond.

I BUTCHY GOT SOME SAD NEWS TODAY AT THE VET

Hey Pals,

This is not good news about me.

I visited the vet today and had a lot of x-rays taken of my body. I have 2 large cancer masses on my left lung which means that I have a primary brain tumor causing my seizures. The cancerous tumor in the brain has spread to my left lung. I have lost 1/2 pound in 2 weeks which is surprising with how much water I drink and food that I eat. The drugs that I am on make me EXTREMELY thirsty and HUNGRY!!! Did you hear me Mama??? I'm HUNGRY again.

I will have x-rays taken again on June 6th to see how fast the cancer is spreading in my lung. This might give us some idea of how much time I have left on this earth with my family and friends, that is if we can get these seizures under control for awhile.

I have started taking the drug Prednisone now along with the other drugs I have been taking. Typically this drug can maybe help shrink tumors. So it's possible that it could shrink or slow down the tumor growths in my lung and brain. It also might alleviate some of the inflammation and water on the brain mass which in turn might prevent some of the seizures I'm getting. I'm having such a hard time getting around now. This morning I jumped off of the big bed and crashed head first into the dresser. Scared the crap out of Mama. The only time I perk up is when it's FOOD TIME!

We took some pictures of our ponds and koi fishies today, so we'll post those tomorrow. I told Katie that I must make sure she has learned all of the Koi Guard Duty skills as someday soon she will be Head Guard.

Mama will also try to post a few of our Moose and Lamb items that we are going to sell to raise money for my meds and tests. Mama told me that I almost take as many medications as she does, hahaha!

STILL FIGHTING THE SEIZURE MONSTER!

Hey Pals,

It's me Katie woofing today. As usual, my brudder Butchy is sleeping off another seizure episode. This morning that darn Seizure Monster struck again. Poor Butchy is still having a seizure almost every day. The vet wanted to wait until next week to see how Butchy was doing before increasing the dosage of the Potassium Bromide, BUT, Mama called the vet right away this morning and they agreed to double the dosage that Butchy is taking starting this afternoon. We sure hope this will start working to eliminate some of these seizures. Mama & Butchy both need to catch up on sleep.

We did get a few pictures of our yellow magnolia tree in full bloom last weekend. With the very high temperatures that we got out of the blue ( 96 degrees ), the buds turned brown in about 2 days and fell off. But luckily we took the pictures before this happened.

Here are some flowers from our pink magnolia tree:

Our wild feral cat still comes nightly for a little bit of food. Mama started feeding him a tiny bit each night a few winters ago and he still comes around. One of our neighbors told us that this same cat rummages through his garbage. He sneaks through the cat door on his garage and gets to the garbage. The poor guy must be hungry. We only give him a little bit each night as we don't want him to become too dependent on it. We want to be sure he keeps his wild instincts going for catching mice and things to eat.

It's a good thing he watches for Mama to put the food out as some other wild visitors have been trying to get his food. First photo is the orange and white cat:

We also wanted to remind people with small dogs to keep a close watch on them if they let them out into their fenced yards. A lady that goes to our vet just lost one of her two dogs to a large hawk and the second dog has a large puncture wound on his back. How horrible. We feel so badly for her. So watch your dogs closely. Hawks and owls can be very sneaky at nabbing little furry things.

UPDATE ON BUTCHY AND COLLECTIBLES FOR SALE

Hey Pals,

It's Katie here today. Butchy is sleeping off another seizure he had this morning. We finally have some pretty colors around here in Ioway. Our pink Magnolia tree is in full bloom, well it was 2 days ago that is....

We keep getting frost at night, so now the flowers are brown and icky. Our yellow magnolia tree has it's buds just starting to peek through:

It looks like we might be safe from frost for about 4-5 days, so hopefully we'll be able to get a picture of the flowers in full bloom.

We've been so busy with doctor and vet appointments lately. Mama has her appointments over with now for a bit. I Katie had my heartworm blood test done this week and I'm worm free! This was my first blood draw and I was such a good girl. I held very still while the vetpire took my blood, hehehehe. I love going to the vet, especially when he gives me those treats. I sure gobble them right up, unlike Butchy, who won't touch them until we get into the car.

I'm 14 months old now and I weigh 13.8 lbs. My fur mama Lily weighs only 16 lbs. so I'll be a small girl. Hey, maybe Lacie and I can share our wardrobes. We're about the same size, tee hee!

Mama also took some pictures of Zeek the other day and got a few good ones of him. Can you believe that tomorrow he will have been here with us for 5 months now? He is such a sweet kittie.

We still can't believe that his owners didn't want him anymore, such a shame. And here is my brudder Butchy:

We just can't figure out why that mean Seizure Monster wants to keep bothering him. Just look at that sweet face......

Butchy has been on the added drug Potassium Bromide now for 8 days and so far he has had 4 seizures and one day he woke up at 4AM wanting to go outside, but was walking wobbly that whole morning. So he might have had one before he woke us up. So we are not seeing an improvement yet since starting the drug.

Mama talked with the vet on Tuesday and if Butchy does not have a good enough improvement by May 16th, the vet will increase the dosage of the Potassium Bromide that day. Normally you are supposed to be on the drug for 3-4 months, then take blood serum tests and determine if an increase can be given. But the vet does not want to wait that long for Butchy. He is just getting too many seizures. So the vet is confident that an increase could be given on the 16th. And you know what that means? More green papers that Mama must spend. Yikes!

So, since Mama has a ton of collectibles that she no longer has room for, we thought we would post a few each week here on the blog to see if anyone would like to purchase the items. The money will go to buy Butchy's medications.

Here is a list of the types of collectibles we have in case any of you collect these, or maybe you know someone that does. We will be pricing these very cheap, but the buyer must pay shipping. In the US, we will ship First Class mail to make it as cheap as possible. Since the prices will be low, no use in buying insurance, etc.

Now remember, these will not be auctioned, these are the asking prices. We have at least 100 pieces.

Also, when purchasing an item, after we have your address, we will let you know the shipping costs. We will take checks or PayPal for our blog friends living in the USA. For Canada or other countries, we can only accept PayPal.

We also ask that you pray for our buddy Mango. He had 2 really bad cluster seizures yesterday and has now started on Phenobarbital. We sure hope it works for him.
