DA MONSTER BIRD IS BACK!

HELP!  I need my Angel Butchy here to help me battle that evil MONSTER BIRD!  aka Great Blue Heron.  He is back and trying to kill our koi.

Mama came home from getting groceries yesterday and spied the MONSTER BIRD by the pond trying to get a fish.  So she turned into the MAD WILD WOMAN!  Jumped out of the car screaming, waving her arms and running at him.  Sure made the MONSTER BIRD fly away fast.

So then she got out our fake plastic Heron decoy and put it out by the pond hoping to deter the real bird.  Mama has been looking out for the birds lately as they have started to migrate and this is when they usually find our pond.  I Katie came out to the ponds with Mama later and we set up the outdoor spy camera by the pond.

This morning Mama went out to the ponds right away to get the chip out of the camera to see if the bird had been around.  She looked into the pond and one of our booootiful red & black hooooge koi was floating dead.  That EVIL bird had stabbed a hole through it's head.  But apparently wasn't sly enough to get it out of the pond.  The bird usually stands at the edge of the pond where the water is 5 foot deep.  Herons won't go into water that deep, so they usually just stand at the side waiting for a koi to swim by them.  But they can't grab the fish easily this way.  So Mama had to bury the poor koi.  She's bummed.

Well lo and behold, we caught the evil villan on camera, check these out:  (the small little heron in the photos is our fake bird)

Too bad these birds are federally protected!  Hmmmmph!

We also had some MASKED villans appear last night at the ponds.  Usually these guys don't get any koi, they are much too large for them to grab.

I better go outside and check the koi again.  Just think, tomorrow night Sparky will be here and he can start learning to protect the koi, hehehehe!
