Boy have we been busy lately. Poor Snickers had a seizure 8 days ago and is still having lots of trouble with the medication side effects. Mama spends most of her time helping Snickers around the house, taking her for lots of walkies to keep her muscles exercised & taking her out to potty a gazillion times a day. It has been almost 3 months now since Snickers started on the Potassium Bromide. The side effects just aren't subsiding yet.
We have started to wean down her dosage of the Phenobarbital, since it didn't seem to be helping her at all and we're hoping this will help lessen the side effects. The effects didn't get this bad until she was on both drugs at once. Her night time agitation is horrible. She doesn't want to sleep, just wants to pace, whine, go out to potty, etc. So after reading many articles about giving epileptic dogs Melatonin at bedtime, we have started her on this as of last night. The Milk Thistle seems to be agreeing with her, she hasn't had any allergic reactions, so we'll be keeping her on this.
We're still deciding about giving her the gelatin daily. We also think she probably needs to be on the Super B Complex vitamins since she urinates so often. The other problem is the extreme thirst. We try to monitor her water after supper so that she doesn't need to potty so often in the night, but she gets dry mouth so bad. We haven't found any information about how to help this as of yet. Has anyone read anything about this subject? If so, please let us know. We're desperate to help her with this problem.
As most of you know, Muzzer has left Gussie & Teka to go on a trip to visit Asta's Mommi & Daddi. So I Butchy left in my plane yesterday to pick up Gussie & Teka, next we picked up Asta, then Scruffy, Lacie & Stanley. We're going to have a MUD PAWTY! It's kind of a celebration for Asta's birthday she just had this week & my birthday which is on the 5th of October.
You're probably wondering why we are having a mud pawty, well, it's cause we have piles of dirt & mud all over the yard. Yep, on Tuesday & Wednesday, Mama played STOOPIDVISOR to make sure the men installed & updated the sewer system correctly. Here are some STINKY pictures, hehehehe!

Mama has more pictures to take when it's not so muddy outside. She's relieved that the system is all updated now, but not that her & Papa are thousands of dollars POORER!!!
On the plane ride back home, I was teaching Asta how to fly my plane. She was scared! Prolly cause Lacie kept trying to grab the stick to steer the plane. She wanted to fly over the Iowa Hawkeye stadium to check out the football players. Imagine that!
Gotta get back to the pawty! Don't want everyone to have fun in the mud without me!

We are sorry to read that Miss snickers is still having problems with her medication. Unfortunately we have no knowledge of the subject so are unable to offer any assistance. We will continue to keep our paws crossed for her return to good health.

Yuckers. I think that mud is a bit too much for me. My momma and master talk about how they sure hope they don't need their septic redone cause it is wicked expensive. Yours must be crying now for sure.

Oh our doggies! NOW we understand the idea behind the mud party! What a huge mess (and huger expense). Diggin' in those piles (or diggin' deeper in the holes) sounds right up Teka's alley. We remember her diggin' to China earlier this summer. And the image of the girls mud wrestling is a head shaker. Just don't get stuck in the mud. We'd miss you.
About Snickers.... we are soooo sad to hear you are struggling so mightily with her. We were so hoping that the KBr was going to be the answer. Maybe it still is. You guys are awesome to keep working at it. Maybe a nice warm quiet mud bath would help.

Wasn't it funny when Asta turned green when I made the plane dive??? I've never seen a foxy wire with a green face!!!!
I totally can't wait to dig in the mud pile!!! Why didn't ur mom and dad hire us terriers to do all of that diggin'??? I certainly would have done it for a new pair of 'spensive shoes!!!

Crikey, poor Snickers. We really hope that soon the right balance in meds will be found and the horrid seizures will finally go away. Please give her a big hug from all of us down here.
As for the mud party....we so wish we could be there. It sounds like so much fun.

I hope Snickers is back in top form in time to enjoy a few muddy exploits! We too have battled epilepsy and it is difficult beyond explanation, but so very worth it.
Poor, sweetie Snickers. Makes me want to cry and cry for her. The meds side effects sounds as awful as the seizures. Hmm....maybe giving Snickers ice cubes to eat in the evening instead of a drink would help her dry mouth? Be less water anyway ....hope your clever Momma finds the answers for her and Snickers is helped by the homeopathetic stuff.

We are so sorry to hear about Snickers. Mommy said that seizures run in her family and she had one as a child and had problems with that Pheno drug too. We are praying for her. Tell her we are sending prayers and hugs and hunky boy WFT kisses, okay?

Oh poor Snickers. We have our paws crossed for you that things will settle down soon. We feel so helpless reading about your condition and not knowing how to help....mmmmhpf.
We very much like the idea of a mud party and if we could ever get our plane started up again, we would fly right over to join you guys. Enjoy!
Wooos! Mom understands about the potassium and dry mouth and excessive thirst problems, because I have dealt with them a long time now. I have incontinence on top of it, so I am on meds for that, but the more I drink, the worse it gets, Mom takes away water from me at night... which I hate, at 6 am, I start wooing for water... I usually get her up at least once a night. Just watch out for signs of incontinence because the meds can make that much worse. Mom says she is sorry to say that it has not got better in the months I have been on the potassium bromide either, but worse. She used to blame the Phenobarbital. Milk thistle has worked great for me, my liver function is very good yet, and I have been on meds for over 5 years.
If anyone on the net helps you out with this, can you let my Mom know? Thanks!
