We finally got Mama to help us blog again. She's so darn busy outside working with her flower gardens. She wants to get everything done in the gardens before our hot summer weather hits here in Iowa. When it's that hot, she can't work in the gardens, it makes her too sick. Plus she shouldn't be in the sun much when it's real hot either. She went to the skin dogtor on Monday & a few weeks previously & had several lumps & things taken off her skin. One patch had the pre-C word mentioned, yikes! Today she got the official word on the other lumps & NO C-word. So we were happy about that.
We were doing walkies around the pond yesterday & look what we found sitting on a rock along the smaller pond edge:

Yep, an ugly mean young Snapping Turtle. They are pretty mean turtles. They will eat our koi fish, tear up our waterlilies, etc.
So Mama caught him in the big fish net and had Papa take him down to the dead end of our road & plop him into the river. Now our koi are safe again!
Here are a few of the koi swimming:

And we are happy to report that the 6 young koi that Mama bought last year, Asta, Agatha, Archie, Maggie, Scruffy & Pearl are ALL alive & well. They made it through winter & survived that mean mink that stole Koi Cookie. We are also seeing baby koi that were born in the pond last year. They are now about 3-4 inches long and starting to swim around with the large koi. In a few months we should be able to start naming some of those young koi. We still have our list of pal names that signed up to have a koi named after them. So once we match a name to a koi, we'll let you know.

That is one really ugly turtle - glad Dad took care of it. Our human brother that lives in California had a bad raccoon or some animal come in at night and steal their koi too. Your koi pond is very lovely.

First of all we are so glad your mamma is ok. Those sun cancer thingies can be very bad.

Now Butchy...I could PRETEND to ask that ugly old snapper on a date....you two could cook up some turtle soup outta him??????
We're so glad that the bumpies that your mama got taken off were all ok....I do have a special smoothie recipe that you can either drink or apply externally for sunblock....orange flavored....
Barkin' at ya dogs, kitties, koi etc!!!
Love to all, but 'specially you Butchy...
Laciegirlie and the other stinky boyz.....
That snapping turtle looks SCARY. NOT the kind of thing a foxy nose would want to grab. We're glad no one was snapped before he got relocated.
And how cool is that? Baby Koi! If our pond wasn't so muddy and there weren't so many cattails surrounding it so we can't get to the edge, we'd get some koi of our own for it! We love to see yours swimming!
Do YOU swim in the pond? Are you water dogs?

Jake and Fergi
Pee eSs We're glad your mommy got good news from the doctor about the scary skin places. Cover up!

Oh, please remind your sweet Mom to stay out of the sun! Our Dad has had several horrible operations over the last few years, and he went through a really rough treatment of chemo last year, all due to skin cancer!
Pee Ess: It was nice of your beans to release that bad turtle into the river:)
