Scruffy & Lacie picked us up in the Steeler Trolley to go to the Steelers football game last night. Mama told us we had to dress warm if we were going. So here is what I Butchy wore to the game:
I'm even taking my little football. Do you think some of the players will pawtograph it for me???(sadly no one wanted to sign it for me, sigh......)
Here is Snickers all ready & waiting for Scruffy:
Boy, it sure was a fun game & of course the STEELERS WON!!!Scruffy will probably have more highlights from the night on his blog.
Today it's only about 6 degrees so of course we have the fireplace going to keep us nice & toasty:
We tried to get a picture of the WHOLE thing to show you:
Mama & Papa collected every stone for the fireplace from 3 surrounding counties. The fireplace also has stone on the outside of the house. Boy, it sure was a lot of truckloads of stone. It's nice & warm in here right now, about 80 degrees, hehehehe. Here are updated photos of the ponds this morning:

Mama was not happy when she saw this:
If you look in the previous photo, you can see this by the big open hole. Mama said this shows that something fell through the ice last night. Now she's worried that something might have drown, like a deer, just like last year, yikes! Since the whole pond is covered in ice, you can't see if anything is in the pond. Most deer can usually get out of the pond, but last year one couldn't & sadly died. So she hopes what ever fell in, got out. Many of our pals ask about our koi in the winter months. See this open hole?? Mama has a big aerator running that keeps this open hole in the pond. You need to have an open hole to let the gases escape from the water in the winter, otherwise gas buildup can kill your fish. The water is about 39 degrees at the bottom of the pond, so the koi sit down there & almost hibernate. They don't eat and rarely move about when it's this cold now. They lose about 20-30% of their body weight during the winter months. So that's why we feed them extra in the fall to build up their fat layer. We won't see them now until around March sometime when the ice melts away & the water starts to warm up to 50 degrees.
The bad thing about the open hole is that all of the critters & deer come to drink water each day. It's good that they have water to drink, but bad with the ice layer when it's not very thick yet. We've only had the ice layer for about a week, so it's only a bit over one inch thick. This picture is the smaller pond. There are no fish in here, just bullfrogs & they hibernate down in the mud. No need to have an open hole for them.
A few pals have mentioned that we should have an ice skating pawty. Well Mama told us that if we can get enough friends that want to come here in the cold weather, we can have a pawty. So please let us know if you would want to come & we'll see if Aire-Ruby is available.Stay warm!
Wirey Hugs!

Wow we loved reading this post. That's really interesting about the koi. Blimey, we sure hope a deer didn't fall into the pond, that would be very sad if it wasn't able to get out. You have such a beautiful fire place, it's amazing. The whole room is just lovely. You're very lucky to be able to snooze there.

We wuf ice skating pawties... well, we wuf pulling dogmom across the ice... does that count? We'd really rather be sitting in front of that big fireplace with a bottle of whine and a big chew bone.

Butchy & Snickers!!
We always wonder how these bootiful koi can survive cold winter and thank you for explaining this! Very interesting.
Hope that bit open hole was not made by a poor deer!
Stay warm!
Momo xoxo
That fireplace must be a super warm one to have your room at 80 degrees with those high ceilings! What a beauty it is! Gee, we sure hope a deer didn't fall into the pond :-(
We have a bubbler too so that our geese, ducks and one swan have open water. The water keeps them safe from preditors!
We're raising our hands for a skating pawty! It sounds like fun to us!
Love ya lots,
Maggie and Mitch

Butchy and Snickers,
You 2 must be the most well dressed pups at the football game.
Your yard looks so different in winter.
Luv,
Snowball
Hi, friends.
Sure you had fun at the game!
I really hope it was not a deer who fell into the pond!
I am freezing here just seeing your pictures!
But of course I'd love to go to the ice skating party!
Have a good night
Lorenza
Uh oh, I hope nothing did drown in the pond.
Wow, those are a lot of colorful stones! It must have been a lot of work to make that fireplace. But it must have been worth it, 'cause it's beautiful!
Sparky
You guys look warm and snuggly in your football outfits. I hope you had a good time at the game, and managed to stay warm. I'm glad your Koi stay safe during the winter, and I hope whatever fell in the pond got out.
Your pal,
Kirby
there are so many interesting things about your house! :) i loved it the time your mama showed the pictures on the walls and the quilts. it must have taken ages to collect all those stones!
an ice-skating pawty sounds like alot of fun! :)

chiyo
Love the football outfits! Really cool! Those are really nice stones!
Hi,
the two of you look great in your football clothes!!
Interesting to hear about the koi. My dad work for a company that mainly sells equipment to the fish farming industry, but they also sell some equipment (mostly uv's, filters and pumps) to the koi industry!
Nice fireplace by the way!!!
Take care,
Günter
We would love to come to your place to ice-skate. So excited just ti think of it.
Love
Boy n Baby
You pals always have nice outfit, good job to your mama.
I hope those deer never fall into the water...that sound really bad....
You two look beautifully wrapped up for the game, and for the cold where you live, brr! I cannot imagine how chilly it must be there. I will never moan about living in wet old England again!
Toodle pip,
Harry x
You really take this football seriously don't you. It looks cold outside, good job you have a nice warm fire.
Simba x
Butchy & Snickers!!
You always know how to dress, no matter what the occassion (I guess that's the result of living with a fashion designer).
Your fireplace is so huge, and gorgeous. I can imagine myself snoozing beside the fire after sliding around your lake on my booty at your ice skating pawty! I don't know how to ice skate, but count me in!
Goober love,
Stanley
omDOG! you two don't get the cold yer. put on more clothes. snickers look too cute in that skull hat!

Boo
What an interesting post! I sure hope nothing fell into the pond and could not get out. I never knew what happened to koi when it got so cold!
Your house sure is beautiful. But I am most impressed by your very cute and warm football outfits!
You look so warm in those outfits, and very snazzy too. But the pond looks really really cold, brrr, just looking at it.
Murph
you kiddos look so cute in your warm clothes. we love those jackets. they are very stylish.
we hope no creature drowned in your pond. do you have to wait until spring to find out? it's amazing that all of those fishies can survive at the bottom in the cold weather.
your fireplace looks nice and warm cozy too. our furnace broke last night so mom has our fireplace on too. it's in a black box with a window. it's not a pretty rock one like yours, but it still makes us warm.
woofers.
We loved your post. We thought your house and the land was gorgeous. We live out in the country, but there's nothing but farmland around. We like to go critterin', as Mom says and we track through the fields.
Sometime we would like to come iceskating. We love to do that. (Well, Zorra doesn't)
Hahaha, you both look sooo cute in your outfits! the fireplace is gorgeous especially with that scawie looking moose on top of it. Hope it doesn't fall off the wall. I would freak out seeing it starring straight at me! Oh I see. So the Kois can live in very cold waters. I thought they can't take it...Well, luckily you have this thing to keep the hole there. Hope nothing fell in it. Poor deer... Oh, I'd love to go for a ice-skating pawty! But I don't know if I can balance properly with those skating show on.
Love licks,
Solid Gold Dancer
You two look fantastic in your football outfits! Very cute, and I love the socks too!

Steeler game was amazing. Didn't think Butchy could run from all those clothes he was wearin, but when Quarterback Ben fell asleep under Koobie's blanket...Butchy was amazing...runnin and passin////

I don't know if you guys know it or not, but there's a DINOSAUR above your fireplace! That's way WAY too big to be an elk.
